For anyone interested there is an excellent timing program which
provides efficiency ratings for external protocols with TELIX. It
is called PTIMER.COM (Version 1.03) and is available with source
code from the author of JMODEM - His BBS number is 508-922-3166.
I use it along with the last release of the MASM variety of JModem
which is version 1.21 - The current C version of JModem is 3.xx
Here is a copy of the report screen generated by PTIMER for those
who want to determine efficiency with various external protocols.

Date : Thursday January 31, 1991 23:12:53.58
Receiving file(s) : DOS2UNIX.ZIP Size : 21,941
Total size (bytes) : 21,941
Baud-rate (bps) : 2,400
Total time (seconds) : 98
Transmission rate (cps) : 223
Transmission efficiency : 92%
Protocol used : DSZ
Communications port : 2
Physical baud-rate : 2,400
One other note, for reporting accuracy before you start your
transfer be sure the host (BBS) is displaying it's download prompt
"before" you initiate your up or down load. The actual prompt
appears "after" you are told to start your download. Doing this
assures that when PTIMER executes and passes control to your
external protocol that you will get a more accurate report. All
you have to do is pause for a moment after you start the transfer on
the host system. This gives the host time to engage it own external
protocol if it is using one. Sometimes that will take as much as
five (5) plus seconds if your downloading from one of the external
protocol doors, like ProDoor or ZDoor - The actual delay depends on
your Sysops door configuration and the type of host CPU in use.
Best Regards,
